Holtwood Community Farm is a small holding based on 15 acres of land in Holtwood near Wimborne, Dorset. We are a working small holding but are primarily a day opportunity provider for adults with Autism, learning disabilities and mental health difficulties.
Our main aim is to provide a safe and relaxing environment in which people can explore and learn about the countryside, agriculture and horticulture whilst also developing their independence, interpersonal skills and confidence. Please see the day opportunity page for more information on attending the farm.
We have a shop which is an honesty box based farm stand where we sell seasonal produce from the farm. This includes eggs, vegetables, plants and meat. More information on the shop can be found here.
The majority of our site is not open to the public, other than on our open days, but the shop and area around it is open for customers to visit every day from 8:30am until dusk.
We hold two open days a year, generally in May and October where we invite anyone to visit the farm and see what we do. More information on these can be found on the news and events page.
Holtwood Community Farm was established in 2010 by Nigel Pritchard, on 15 acres of council tenanted land in Holtwood, Dorset. Nigel set up the farm having spent the previous years working at Kingston Maurward College and witnessing first hand the lack of provision of day services for those leaving the education system.
His vision was to create a place where adults with a range of abilities would be able to experience, enjoy and learn from working in a rural environment with other like minded individuals.
With the help of Vanessa, Josh, Alun and our staff that goal has been achieved and the farm has gone from strength to strength. We now offer day services for up to 16 people per day, and enable those with a variety of needs to come and enjoy the countryside in a safe environment.
The farm is targeted towards adults (18+) with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental health difficulties and we currently support both men and women from 18 through to 65. We can offer support for a variety of needs so please get in contact to find out if we can help you.
Please see the day opportunities page for more information about attending the farm.
Our aim is simple: to provide a calm, relaxing and safe environment in which our clients are able to come to learn, have fun and interact with others.
We are here to maximise the experience of each individual and support them to grow, and achieve their potential.
We believe that being outside in the natural environment can be a huge boost to mental wellbeing, as well as beneficial for physical health. The satisfaction that comes from caring for animals and the rewarding experience that is nurturing a plant from seed through to harvest, can be of huge benefit.
